"All Ears"

"All Ears"
9" x 12" Pastel Original

I've always wanted to do a zebra as I find the contrasts technically and visually fun... However, technically it was very difficult. Following the hair patterns, I learned that the hairs entering the black stripe are white and the hairs exiting the stripe are black... That kept me on my toes!!

"Barn Owl"

SOLD
(includes custom framing)
“Barn Owl”
Small Painting Series
4” x 5” Pastel Original

I have been asked to paint owls many times and I decided to start with a Barn Owl. I used to raise Persian Cats and the Barn Owls' face resembles the sweet expression of those cats. Though the eyes are always one of my favorite things to paint, I enjoyed the challenge of the intricacy of the feathers in this painting.

Main Street Gallery Reception

I was chosen to be the featured artist for July 2011 at Main Street Gallery in Weaverville, CA. Last night was the reception and it was a wonderful turnout. It was great talking to all of the people who attended. I was very fortunate to make some good sales and contacts. My artwork will be on display through the month of July along with other artists' work. I want to give a giant shout-out of thanks to my husband Rich, Karen and Marge for so beautifully hanging this show!

This is a mustang gelding, fully trained, and a great working horse. As I started my pre-sketch, I noticed that there was a reflection of the fence and myself in the reference photo that I took. That's why I'm calling it "Self Portrait".

Spring is here and so are the baby lambs. Who can resist these darling, jumping bundles of cuteness?! "Mrs. Holstein"
Small Painting Series
4" x 5" Original

We were recently on a photo shoot and came across this awesome dairy in Northern California. Because we will be attending the Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale, I wanted to paint something to take along. I couldn't resist #1207 as my subject for a couple of reasons: This is Pearl Harbor Day and my dad is a Pearl Harbor survivor and it is also the wedding anniversary of my dear friend in Cape Town, South Africa.
